What is the WTC?

The World Team Championships is one of the most prestigious international tabletop gaming events in the world, with Warhammer 40k as the flagship event. Nations travel from all over the world to compete as a team and be crowned as World Champions, with the event growing from its inception in 2006 to a massive 40 countries in 2024.

Any nation may apply to enter a team into the WTC by putting together an 8 person team, meaning that the best players from all over the world attend the event. Many teams bring supporting personnel, in a variety of roles from managing the team, to assisting with preparation, coaching during the rounds, setting up tables, data gathering and stats analysis, and much more. It really is a team event in every sense.

The main event takes place over a 4-day period in August each year, with two 4-hour rounds per day in which teams pair off their players. Those players then play 8 individual games of 40k, with the combined score totals of those games determining the winner.

There is also a large singles event immediately preceeding the team event, known as the Warmaster GT, which is unique for a singles event in that it also features players from all over the world. Many of these players have travelled for the team event and use the singles event to get crucial additional practice - if they have the stamina to play up to 15 rounds of 40k over 6 days!

The event isn't just about competition however - it's also become a great international community of players, many of whom return year after year, getting to meet new and old friends from many countries who share our passion for the 40k hobby.
